The study examined the perceived importance of health among individuals from different socioeconomic backgrounds. It found that people with lower SEPs rated health as less important than other life domains, including being well and living long. The study also revealed that the social gradient of health’s importance was mediated by factors related to education and health. In contrast, individuals with higher SEPs ranked health as more important than other life domains. Although this result is not conclusive, it suggests that health is an important determinant of a long and healthy life.
